Registration Requirements

To register a student in the Portage la Prairie School Division, the following documents are needed:

  • A copy of your child's birth certificate
  • Proof of residency (e.g. utility bill or lease agreement)
  • Any necessary documentation (e.g. School of Choice Form, custody papers)

These documents can be emailed or presented in person at the school for copying.

Parents/guardians choosing to bypass Kindergarten for their child should note that the child will start in Grade 1 the following year.

For the Mature Student Program (MSP) at Portage Collegiate Institute, please stop the online process and complete the MSP Registration in person at the PCI West Office (brick building).

Catchment Areas

Students are required to attend the school within the catchment area where they reside. Exceptions are made using the School of Choice application process.

French Immersion

If you live in Portage la Prairie or the Rural Municipality, you do not need to provide proof of residency or to fill out a School of Choice Form. Registrations should be made to:

  • École Arthur Meighen (M-8ième), or
  • Portage Collegiate Institute (9ième - 12ième)

School of Choice

If you wish to enroll your child in a school outside your catchment area, you are still required to first register them at the designated catchment school before proceeding with the School of Choice application.

If your child is currently attending a school within PLPSD, no re-registration is needed. Your child will be automatically registered for the next school year at their current school. If your child is currently in Grade 8, they will be registered for Grade 9 at Portage Collegiate Institute (PCI).

If your child is currently attending a PLPSD school and you wish to transfer your child to another school within the division, you do not need to complete a new registration. Please contact your current school for assistance.

If your child has previously attended any school with PLPSD, please review the information below.

Registered during or after 2022-23 school year

  • If your child is not a current PLPSD student but was previously enrolled in PLPSD during or after the 2022-23 school year, registration is not necessary. Please contact your designated catchment area school. School staff will provide you with further instructions on completing the registration process.

Registered prior to the 2022-2023 school year

  • If your child was previously enrolled before the 2022-23 school year, you will need to complete a New Student Registration or contact your school for registration details.

To begin the NEW STUDENT registration process, complete the online registration for the appropriate school year below. 

2024-2025 Online Registration

  • Children born in 2019 are eligible for Kindergarten.
  • School Year begins September 3, 2024 and ends June 27, 2025.

2025-2026 Online Registration 

  • Children born in 2020 are eligible for Kindergarten.
  • School Year begins September 2, 2025 and ends June 30, 2026.
